Coke in my shoes
I was so excited for my Islands tortilla soup and my customary Coke with no ice (I like my drinks like I like my men: sweet, bubbly, and lukewarm, baby!). I was SO EXCITED. So I picked up my order and I was driving back to work when I took a turn. For the WORSE. My flaccid excuse of a cupholder just up and RELINQUISHED my drink and the next thing I knew, everything south of my ankles was drenched...

Street Banjos and Drunk Bodybuilders
Last night, Justin and I stuffed our faces at Bare Back Grill in downtown SD, as I do on a bi-monthly basis. Afterwards, we decided to walk up and down 5th Ave. We went into the charming Goorin’s Hat Shop where Justin tried on several fedoras in the corner and we commented on their poor fit until an employee informed us that we were in the children’s section.
Back outside, there were...

A bird pooed on my window
I came home from work today and found that a bird had pooed on my window. Yes, ON my window. Through the screen and onto the glass, no downward trajectory. It was appalling. I don’t even know how to clean it off, we’ll see if my hand can fit between the glass and the screen. If not, I’ll find some small child to clean it off, or a very petite Asian. How does that even HAPPEN....
Summer 2011 trailers
There are a couple movie trailers from this past summer where I really liked the sound and editing. 1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
I appreciated this trailer even more after seeing the movie. The mechanical sound that starts about halfway through is actually I think a sound effect from the film, and they’ve incorporated it into the soundtrack and the trailer. Great movie too! 2....

I love her style! So pretty, fresh, and sophisticated! I remember when I was about 6, my teacher asked a group of us what we’d like to do someday. I said that someday I wanted to meet a princess. One classmate scoffed and said “Princesses don’t exist.” (So young, so jaded!) And my teacher said, “No they do. Like Princess Diana,” though she looked concerned that...

My dad told us the story of how he met my mother. Many years ago, in a faraway land called Taiwan, a young man saw a young woman at a bus stop. He went and chatted with her. They both got on the bus and talked at length and then went their separate ways. Upon reflection, the young man thought to himself that that was the first time he’d had such a nice conversation with a girl and that she...

The heart is not broken Merely left in the frost Frozen It becomes an inanimate thing Cold to the touch Eyes wide open And unseeing Lips parted For words that will never be said A hollow space on the shoulder Where once lay a head It is never broken It is never lost They will go back and look upon it In the years to come And there it will be Always the same It never grew It never changed

After work, I went to the mall. I went to the mall because Haagen Dazs was giving free scoops of ice cream. But the line was too long and I got impatient looking at it, so I went to Forever 21 and tried on shorts. Girls, lemme tell you something. There’s something you should know, and I’m gonna tell you right now. After college, your body… changes. Now I know everybody’s...

"Joycieface"
I don’t remember where it came from. I think it was a friend’s nickname for me. Maybe it was a nickname I wished a friend would give me. In any case, I’m very partial to it as a username bc it’s ALWAYS available. I love it. It’s simple, memorable, indicates my identity so nobody is left guessing, and has no numbers, which is a total high five bc I hate numbers....

In-N-Out vs Five Guys
“There are key differences between the two chains. In-N-Out’s menu items are generally less expensive — the chain is most popular with young men ages 18 to 24 with an income of less than $70,000 a year, according to NPD. By contrast, Five Guys patrons are generally 25 to 50 years old, with an income of more than $100,000.” - LA Times Interesting.
